“A Portrait of the New America: 13 Part Television Series"

“CRASH”, is the breakthrough film nominated for Best Drama at the 2006 Academy Awards. The film is creating a buzz throughout America for its storytelling of how America is changing FAST and how stereotypes cause pain.

A Portrait of the New America will ease the pain of ignorance and misunderstanding by going beneath the surface of the Multicultural Iceberg and dealing head-on with issues of race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, economic status and others with REAL, reality TV programming. The series will tell real-life stories that are lurking right below the surface of Multicultural Americans across all aspects of life including the social, economic and political landscape.

Why now? During the past month alone, The Smithsonian announced that it would be sponsoring an exhibit based on Hip Hop including artifacts such as lyrics, music and clothing of rappers such as JayZ, Nelly and a host of others. NBC has revealed their partnership with Telemundo to “cross-over” their Spanish-language Novelas (soap operas) for English prime time TV. Buena Vista Television will be re-designing US programs for distribution throughout Latin America.

Oprah Winfrey interviewed guests from a new series on FX where Anglos and African Americans switch identities with the help of flawless movie-quality make-up. The series will truly explore The New America by literally having people walk in someone else’s shoes.

Barack Obama, the Senator from Illinois is already generating significant buzz as a Presidential candidate in the not-to-distant future. Senator Obama is a perfect example of how America is changing as his parents are racially mixed and part of an unprecedented increase in this type of union.

Brokeback Mountain and Capote are rapidly re-framing America’s views on sexual orientation. The list goes on and on…

Its new media journalism series, A Portrait of the New America, is designed to help viewers navigate the rapidly changing American landscape on two critical dimensions: the rise of multiculturalism in the United States and the resulting tipping point that America is at RIGHT NOW.

This is accomplished by entertaining, empowering and enlightening the viewing audience by demonstrating that stereotypes are inhibiting our ability to understand and embrace one another. The format is a series of one hour PBS style documentaries featuring the lives, concerns, passions and struggles of Multicultural Americans who are changing the face of the United States.
